Money Tree parts one and two -
Part one is an atmosphere based on whirring percussion and a wash of
strings and organ. This builds into part two, which introduces live elements, including tenor sax and acoustic drums (a mostly dead set in a barn loft).
A constant, mechanical pulse is maintained throughout the entire piece. This rhythm works as a frame in which the cyclical, restless chord progression can wander.
The opening and closing of the spectrum of frequencies frames the piece, while melodic and other spacial elements transform the piece throughout.
This was first conceived with trip-hop drums in the fore, but these were removed to bring the focus to the morphing textures. That version may still exist somewhere.
Also hear the self-contained version.
The song to my (money) rain dance. Sadly, only one coin falls. Composed after a Boards of Canada binge. Listen for knee slapping in the drum track.
I've made many variations of this track, but this one is best suited for this group of songs. You'd never know from listening, but the entire track was composed on the offbeat. Some copies of the Money Tree EP had a different song, Broken Lightbulbs, in this place. I've decided to retire this track for now.
A prelude to Lives Here with a title lifted from a Wordsworth sonnet (thanks, chap).
A melding of live and electronic sounds, again featuring sax and the legendary bard loft drum set that should have been retired long ago.
